IADR-SEA Mentor-Mentee Program 2.0: Calling for new mentees

The IADR-SEA council has introduced the IADR-SEA Mentor-Mentee Program to provide high-quality research training to young dental researchers from the SEA lower-income countries. This program aims to nurture aspiring researchers from Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Vietnam under the guidance of experienced senior mentors from the region.

Six candidates will be selected and given US$2000 for the proposed research project under the supervision of a senior mentor(s).

Mentee Eligibility Criteria

  1. An active IADR member and a junior faculty from Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines or Vietnam

  2. The Mentee should be supported by the respective Faculty/Dean with a long-term academic plan for the career development of the mentee.

  3. The mentee should preferably have at least a Master's level dental degree and an acceptable English proficiency level.

Application Procedure

Please email the following documents to Dr. Waruna Dissanayaka (IADR-SEA Division Councillor) at warunad@hku.hk by April 22, 2024. 

1.    Short research proposal for funding (capped at US$2000). 

  • Outline: 

    • Title of the project 

    • Potential mentors (local/international), if any, for consideration by the council.

    • Background of the project 

    • Aims and Objectives 

    • Methodology 

    • References

    • Timeline/schedule of work 

    • Budget (Capped at US$ 2000)

3.    Application Letter highlighting the intent and motive

4.    Letter from the Faculty/Dean indicating a long-term academic plan for the career development of the mentee

Following the selection, an appropriate mentor will be allocated to help develop the mentee's proposal. The mentee must complete the research project under the mentors' supervision within a year. Mentees must present their work at IADR-SEA and, if possible, at IADR General meetings. The IADR SEA council will provide a US$500 travel award for the mentees who present their research at these meetings.

The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) has been established since 1920 to promote craniofacial, oral and dental research of all aspects. IADR is divided into five regions. Countries and regions under Southeast Asian Division are Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam.
